I was just looking at shiny things on the DMM site (and eyeing up my credit card), and I see that they now do a gym quick draw the crab of which is steel but has a bent alu gate which means it's the perfect breaking crab. If you look at the table at the bottom you can see it's available without the captive bar.

thought people might like the heads up.

ahhh

doesn't say what the steel is though. Looks like some kind of alloy.

I've got some very nice industrial A4 polished marine grade stainless crabs here made by ISC. Fook me they are nice, if you look at one you'll never use anything else again. Retail at about 35 quid each though, ouch, but they are real crab gucci. 4 ton SWL.

I use them for anything that's likely to take some heavy punishment.

are the gates bent though? that's the real rarity I've found. I'd imagine that it's still a pretty durable metal even if is a steel alloy, it'd have to be to stand up to indoor wall use, repeated falling onto bolts and such.

Have you any idea how much they cost? May be a little difficult to get hold of them as they look like a specialized bit of kit..

thats for the complete quick draw though, I'm pretty friendly with the guy at my local climbing shop I might have a word and see if he can get us a few if there is enough interest, then I'll post em out to people.

You a Cardiff boy? Up and under indeed! May be worth having a chat with the v12 boys in llanberis as they deal with cosmetic seconds from dmm...

There is also the option of - http://www.caving-gear.co.uk/show_product.asp?id=964

Not steel but not personally ever had a problem with an ally one for a braking crab.
