| Hi everyone,just a few words from a new member.I have been interested in mines and caves since the early 60's when I first left school. I had done quite a lot of rock climbing and mainly caving and potholing in the Yorkshire Dales right up to the early 70's when I got sidetracked with other things(building miniature passenger carrying steam loco's).I became really interested in old mine workings and the first mine I and my friends explored was Connonly Moor Lead Mines just south of Skipton,and mines on Grassington Moor, Pikedaw Calamine Caverns on Pikedaw hill near Malham was another early one. In the 90's while excavating North cliff Woods for the trackbed of a miniature railway I discovered a stone mine in the hillside of the small valley of which I Explored with a companion,there was no known records of this stone mine which we could find,I could only explore it for a few hundred yards before I was stopped by a roof fall,it was subsequently covered over for safety reasons as young children walked through these woods.I am fast approaching retirement but still go hiking in the Yorkshire Dales.I would love to go exploring old mines again but I think I might be too old now.I think this is a great site and thanks for allowing me to join.
