This is a disused ore mine located in the Hunsrück region of Rhineland.
Lead, zinc, silver, and copper ore were mined here. It is estimated that a total of approximately 380,000 tonnes of raw ore were extracted. There was also a small railway connected to the mine. Interestingly, there is still an active mine nearby.
These photos are actually from my second visit. The first time, I had no idea there were so many ways to access the actual adits. Initially I was simply drawn to the stunning landscape and the old relics above ground.
I was amazed to find that nearly every adit in the area contained so many bones and skulls scattered around.
In the lower sections, the mines were flooded. The water was crystal clear, and judging by the presence of a rope, I assume divers explore these parts?
