It’s a fair amount of money for kit also .

I would consider thinking - do I really want to do this ? It opens up a lot of doors but , do you really have to ??

Whole regions of the uk manage without SRT .

More than happy to start a new thread to discuss more .

I think the Cambrian caving council also run lessons at Brecon twice a year for SRT training. Don't bother with rope access, rope access is aimed more at industrial use and is a formal qualification up to level 3 from what I've learned in my engineering background, however alot of the techniques and gear are interchangeable. SRT is adapted for explorations, light weight gear.

If you want to explore mines I'd hazard a guess that you could still explore 90% without SRT gear, so as Tom mentioned, ask yourself is it worth it? As one mistake could be fatal. I'll be honest though I learned the basics myself, I've never had to use SRT until I started exploring mines as we used ladders in caves mostly. They come with their own set of advantages and disadvantages though.

It was more of a safety aspect as well as the exploration. We went to Cwm Ystwyth and there were quite a few sketchy areas.

I recommend you join a mine or cave exploration club (if you aren't already) so you can learn the techniques used to ensure safety whilst exploring, things aren't sketchy then, well they still are but you can mitigate most dangers.

Really enjoyed my visit here this morning, all ladders are ok but didn’t do any ropes. Just a thought, if the bottom addit was to be drained would there be anything to view in it?

There is the most fantastic artefact at the end of the lowest adit. Well worth the cold wade.

Chris.
