These photos were recorded last week and show a small-scale coal recovery operation from the tips of Gwaunclawdd colliery, viewed from the nearby public footpath. The ancient tramming level portal immediately to the south has not been disturbed. The level features in Stephen Hughes "The Brecon Forest Tramroads" and he reports it extended for a mile into Mynydd y Drum and that most of it has been obliterated by opencasting. The seam is reported to be 10ft. thick. The temporary nature of such operations pictured here are such that recording them for posterity is fairly important.
