I always knew it as "Knowles", now I stand corrected and will change the folder name on my own system. Nice to see you on here, daresay we will meet again sometime in the Via Gellia, one of my favourite places.** Pedant warning **
Masson Quarry, more properly Masson Opencast, was never known as "Mason Lees Quarry" or any other derivative/spelling until the BMC came along. They named it (with a missing S) using the nearest place on the map - Masson Lees Farm. The name Knowles Quarry is also incorrect. Knowles Mine was (mostly) destroyed by the opencast. The photo is certainly of Masson Quarry/Opencast with the cavernous entrance to Masson Mine visible. It is likely that some of the Knowles Mine workings were located near this entrance.
No, wrong mine. "Hillocks Mine" is a made-up name for one part of Whalf Pipe Mine near Monyash, that shaft top is on Silver Hillocks Vein north of Great Longstone.Brilliant , thanks . To confirm this is 3246 ?
