where it says photo 4 is at the bottom of the skipway cwmystwyth and then the cages are Bwlch Glas

2/ Cwymystwyth, if I remember an experiment in lead smelting
3/ Vicky Robinson again, Cwmystwyth skipway
4/ Correct as above, BW cages., but cant name the person.
Not my photos by the way.

From Wiki
The Mynydd Gorddu Mine, Bontgoch (Elerch) was a small mine about 1.5 km west south west of the village. A trial trench was dug in 1848 and in 1870 a seam of galena was found. By 1884, output of the mine was up to 901 tons of lead ore and 183 tons of zinc ore. Mining appears to have ceased by 1900.

Further to the west is Elgar also in the album. MG is in 2 areas, the lower wheelpit and upper mine. There is a shaft and an adit, both the subject of dumping some very disagreeable waste and so should now be considered inaccessible. I explored the adit years ago to a wide area of a stope with a timber bridge with wooden launder over a narrower understope, flooded and with the bridge partially submerged.

Elgar, on same lode had adit dug open many years ago. It was explored past arun in shaft to a flooded understope withremains of a small kibble. All from memory.

The two blowers in photo 2 are myself and Dave Seabourne.
I think the person in yellow in photo 4 might be Matt Clark (now NAMHO treasurer?).

Chris.

Update time -

I need to no an album for these .

Has anyone got a album entry for - Mynedd gorddu

I see Roy has gave a site description.

Its Nant yr arian. This small mine is east of Old Goginan. There are 2 open levels, one a dry walk in to Engine Shaft as seen in the photos. The other is quite wet to a forehead. Its supposedly ancient with stone hammer being found there. Main working period around 1992 with a revival 1902, Silver Stream Mining Company. (Bick). Location SN 705814

The person in the oversuit behind Simon Timberlake is Olly Buroughs (Parys Underground Group) and the person next to him (head not visible) is possibly myself.

I haven’t had a Google, but would be good to get a video in this chat of exactly what is going on here .

Maybe YouTube has a sort of school boy science video .
