Looking to go on a trip

Hello!

I'm visiting family from abroad up in Anglesey from 16th of June till the 24th of June. I only got to come back to the UK maybe once a year, so I like to make the most of it with a trip. I would go caving since that's my main interest, but it's hard to find something workable for that, and some folks at the UK Caving Forum pointed me here. It seems like it could be fun to try.

I love tight squeezes and generally active sections. I don't mind water at all and heights are fine with me. I don't have any rope training beyond doing a bit of rock climbing though (still fine to do rope stuff with instruction), and this being a trip I don't have any equipment ready. I can get a lift from family to anywhere within reason and can go anywhere else that's reasonable to get to with public transport. I'm down for just about anywhere that'll be a fun and intense day, and hopefully it'll be a good showing of what mines can offer.

Please let me know if any ones up for a trip or if there's anyone I should contact about doing one! Really hoping I can figure something out and get to dabble in this activity I rarely get to do a little more. Also of course, getting to meet some lovely people along the way.

I see you've already sounded Ucet out. Other groups who may be able to help out are the Parys Underground Group and the Great Orme Exploration Society.

There are loads of underground slate workings to explore in North Wales, and if you are new to these and want maximum bang per buck, you could do worse than go for a guided excursion either with Go Below (base in Betws y Coed) or Corris Mine Explorers - both are via ferrata style with all equipment provided.

Bwlch y Plwm* Deep Adit near Llanfrothen and Cae Coch near Llanrwst are mines you could do yourself with a reasonable amount of common sense.

* belay belt and cowstail advisable if doing Level 3, top levels are srt.

Yorkshire's a bit far unfortunately, though I am in St Helens about a week earlier too. Last time I went to Alum Pot from there and the transport was utter hell using public transport :LOL: Trying to avoid making the trip as stressful this time around.

Thanks for the tips. I gave Parys mines another look and gave them a message. Looks pretty fun for how close and affordable it is. The others I'll need to give more of a look, though I remember being tempted by Go Below before already. Especially interesting to find out ones that are (fairly) safe to solo. I haven't done SRT so that parts off the table, but the rest I can give a look.
 
PS I've been told that Corris Mine Explorers, whilst still doing trips, maybe are now more towards the family-friendly side of things.

Personally, I'd go for whatever the 'max' Go Below package is.

Noted. I did notice the site mentioned walks much more than mine exploration.

And yeah. In for a penny and all that. I do wish it had some tight stuff though, and while I can't moan at the price for what it offers, I'd certainly feel the cost on my japanese yen wage. 😅
 
If you own a torch and helmet look on the online database on here ! Nothing is stopping you sticking your head in places ?

Or does it have to be organised ?

I could get one and have a try. I would like to go with others though since I'm fresh faced enough to make mistakes and I enjoy the social element of it.

If you do a Go Below trip, I'd go for the "Hero" trip. There's less verticality and fewer zip lines than the "Ultimate" but you should get to see more of Cwmorthin mine and learn more of its fascinating history.

Since the new owners have taken over the trips at Corris are now just walk around trips unfortunately. Standard tourist trips as I call them
