Whilst looking for information about Penmaen gold and copper mines there were several references to them having a 25hp Medwin & Hall Patent portable engine. On one was a woodcut image of such an engine and some testamonials from other users.

Medwin & Hall was owned by Thomas Charles Medwin and Cresswell Hall. They specialised in boiler making, engine making and boiler engineering from their workshop, Surrey Ironworks, in London. Despite some high profile customers it seems they weren't good business men as they went bankrupt in 1857 after only about five years.
