Mine entry updates by Roy

Working through others in the area, some confusion between Bwlch (Bwlch Cwmerfin) and Cwmerfin, these mines are about half a mile appart. I have moved the "landowner" bit to Bwlch, as you descend the site you will see his farm in front of you on the high ground. Bwlch formed part of the Goginan set, its on the same lode. When digging in the Goginan 26 I had wet dreams about getting into this lot, I got more chance of winning the premium bonds.

Had look at Goginan entry, and there's some great info there now. Great job Roy.

The modern history of the mine does revolve around my own efforts and I am wondering how to treat this. I can do "a member of Welsh Mines Society" or blatently name myself, I dont know whats best.
I am also wondering about the book, really just along paper, on Talybont. I will get it to pdf and send to Robin, mods and trustees can discuss best future for it. I will just go with the flow.

Just done Frongoch, quite a task. I think I will next do Cwmystwyth and upper Dinas as I only need to paste in from my websites

Hey , hey, just done Upper Dinas, Cwmystwyth, Cwmystwyth South. Some notes. Cwm South is nothing to do with Copa Hill, ref removed. Also ownership and access:
Free access to explorers who understand the risks and are prepared to accept them.
Cambrian Mines Trust own the main site, but subject to third party freehold grazing rights, and our ownership to the west through the gate is in the "all mines and minerals" only.

Cwm Leri Mine.
There are two different mines here mixed up. My photos relate to the lead mine on Alltycrib Hill, Talybont.
map refs - Top Level SN 6472 8918 Middle SN6478 8913 Deep adit SN6480 8907
The references given for the mine relate to this and to another mine. Not sure how to do this, I have a good description ready and waiting.
As far as a general reference goes, I would use middle adit as its right on the forestry track and was surveyed by me for NRW. The dressing floors in the pics are by deep adit but relate to a different working. You will see when I have the description up.

PS, if anyone else can flesh out any other mine descriptions or histories, please send a Change Request with details via the relevant Mine Details page !!

What you done mate!
Its not Alltycrib Mine, its Cwm Leri. I said Alltycrib HILL, there are several mines on the hill, all separate concerns
EDIT
I will come back with a list of the mines on the hill and the map refs which I can probably change if necessary.
The main oriblem is that it appears that there are 2 Cwm Leris, the lead mine with refs as I gave, and the slate mine over to the east which is exitsing entry. This needs to be split somehow, this is why I have referred it to others as I am unsure how to do this.

Below are the map refs for the Talybont mines from Simon Hughes.
You will see Cwm Leri.
Talybont Deep adit ref is a location now known as y Wern, a large private house, there is no entry to the mine there. I would give location for Talybont/Alltycrib Mine as Felix's Shaft which is the current entry point. See a lot of these mines have upper workings, and deep adit portal in different location. A lot of the deep adit portals are now lost anyway.
I am giving this info for general interest and future reference, If you can split Cwm leri for me I can sort out everything else. But the Cwm Leri external references need to be split between the slate mine and the lead mine
I would not change anything else at this stage as many of the levels listed below will group under an existing mine entry.

Hi Roy,

Hopefully following is now as required, if not let me know.

  • Alltycrib (#26) moved to SN 6534 8932 (location of Felix Shaft)
  • Cwm Leri Slate Quarry (#1655) which originally came from Slate Gazeteer left unchanged at SN 6770 8850
  • Added Cwm Leri Mine (#29405) to SN 6480 8907 (SH's Cwm Leri No. 3 Adit) as location
  • Added Leri Valley Mine (#29406) to SN 6790 8780 (SH's Leri Valley Mine SN 6790 8780) - not added any product- not sure if this one was needed, but can be removed if not.

Great!
Now the links to external publications. Its first 5 down, starting with mine, these need to go to the Cwm leri at Talybont, I am afraid of messing something up. I am unsure about the NMRS reference?
I can carry on now from where we are.

Moving forward, I have been looking at my Talybont Mine stuff, its a cartload. There is an interesting piece to add to "the book" about work I did at y Wern to drain the workings, also some thoughts I had about the working of the mine. I am still wanting to make it into a free publication in pdf format, if anyone wants to see it published they can take on the job. I have enough on my plate and not interested in any income from a book.
The book itself will be an eye opener, I have removed the bit about nearly being killed, discretion is the better part of valour. LOL
I will be meeting the hon chair of WMS on Sunday for chat and return his lamp I have just fixed, its not far from the Caving Wales AGM I posted about. I can try and get him to join the forum.

I have just updated Goginan and will be working through the area over time, and advising as I go on this thread.
Hope you did not come across the "Guardian" ! I took my pal Richard Hewer there about a year back to show him Taylor's incline. There was a name and phone number on the gate, which I rang and was told we could visit but not to climb over the gate. So we climbed over the wall next to it. There is a CCTV camera and speaker on site and from the latter came a voice telling us to bugger off, in essence, because we had climber over the gate. Not so of course. The guy sounded very cross. We tried to exit the place, following my chum's photographic session, but could find no way of getting out other than more or less where we had come in. Wasn't you was it Roy??!

Hi Dickie, I havent been near the place for years, but thanks for heads up re the situation there. I havent spoke to the owner for some time either. I will have to take a look next time around there. What wall did you climb over?
There is a public path runs through thesite but goes no where near Taylors Incline, it does pass upper adit though.
