Back in the 1970's, Jones the Mine used to drive a series 1 Land Rover into the ventilation adit at Cwmorthin to fetch out slate blocks.
The Land Rover was well rounded on its corners....

Any mine adit can be driven to if you are brave enough.

according to exploring with fighters you can drive right up to Hospital level/Courtney's cross cut in Coniston.

A few years ago I went to look at the mines of Luxemboug. Big pillar and stall iron mines. I met a local lad who took me around a couple of places and he said that him and some friends had a good trip where they entered one mine via a vent shaft, lowered their mountain bikes down, then cycled about 25 Kilometres to an adit entrance. It all had to be done carefully as it is illegal to go in old mines there.
