A valid question for sure - ascending is something I've practiced in a tree a few times, alongside passing knots and changing over from ascending to descending and the opposite. Rebelays etc no, but I'm familiar with the concepts.Perhaps a silly question, but have you got much experience ascending fixed ropes? Most trips with an SRT element require you to come out the way you came in, which requires ascending back up the ropes you've come down. This is definitely something you want to get good at before tackling it underground somewhere unfamiliar at the end of a trip, so maybe we can suggest some shorter and more straightforward pitches to get you started? The same goes for rebelays, deviations, rope rub etc.
I'm not a member of a club (yet), just keen to get some ideas of where I want to go, and what additional skills I'll need to know to go there safely before launching headfirst into something!
