The photo above is probably the best one for showing any details - you can see the other water wheels top left, the mine shops are visible too, and it shows the balance bob for the rods leading up to the main shaft higher on the fell.

Greenhurth is a nice site to walk out to & visit (not in mid-winter though). Still has remains of it's circular buddles and the several water wheel pits and casings. A pleasant walk out from Cow Green reservoir car park, or from the Durham-Cumbria (sorry - Westmorland!) border.

The whole area is covered in Fairbairns British Mining 77 (or the revised 2nd edition from 2009) and is a lovely part of the world to spend time in.
