at the top of drift 2 the roof is coming in, steel joists bent ,roof supports out and the roof level is lowerd,take extreme caution here as this will come in on the unwary visitor.

We also experienced breathlessness whilst venturing along the main drift about 800ft in, though I also noticed a draught from one of the adjoining tunnels so perhaps another entrance may exist. Someone has also chalked a warning on the left hand tunnel leading from the main entrance (fan tunnel) of bad air after the large furnace structure

On a visit today 19th Nov 2006 Bad air or should i say lack of air was exprienced aprox 50-60 yds down the drift No 2 (i think) to clalify better the drift which has the 8 inch water main, fresh water main and compressed air pipes heading away from the ent

This mine was also known as 'Monument Mine' due to it's proximity to Captain Cook's Monument. Lots of surface remains can still be seen today.
