Caphouse / National Coal Mining Museum

Hope Pit is connected underground to Caphouse Colliery which forms the underground tour at the museum (free). Hope pit occupies the western part of the museum. Hope pit (along with nearby Woollery) is used to control the mine water and keep it below the level of the underground tour which involves going down 140m in shaft cage.
