Warning: Mine exploring is potentially very dangerous, especially for the inexperienced. You are responsible for your own actions at all times, and by browsing this site you indicate you have read and fully accept the terms of the disclaimer statement.
This is caused by rotting wood, and in a couple of places within the mine especially the adits where timbering was extensive through the faulted areas. Have no doubt this can knock you out, for good if your unlucky.

It has come to my attention that an explorer in this mine (actually two years ago now) ran into a pocket of bad air and felt very faint with a headache. Bad air is very unusual in slate mines but it's not impossable, if visiting Moel Fferna keep alert for it!

I hope to complete my updated version of the abandonment plans by next Friday 15 Sept 06. Once this has been done and computerised i shall post it on this site. I have looked extesively around this mine with the idea of opening up one of the adits. This would make Moel Fferna a safer option for those who in the past have pulled their rope through at the air shaft. This is not imposible to climb out but it would be eaiser to walk out. This dig as all my mine work will be a solo mission with updates being posted. This will pobabley be late this year or next spring, Aberllyn mine needs survey first.
