The Hydraulic Engine

The engine was installed underground in 1881 at a cost of £4500. It was powered by a water supply from the Sun Hush Dam 43 fathoms above, via a cast iron pipe. The engine developed 50 horsepower and was used to work both the pumps and the hoist.
