Dodgy Descent

Had a look here yesterday. Had the 30M rope which reached from "that tree" to the bottom of the second ladder. The top ladder is mega hairy and SRT is a must. The second plat down has a huge amount of rocks on it and with the slightest movement rocks fall from here and there. We sent a 9st member of the party down the second ladder which was scarily wobbly and not looking 100%. We decided that we would come back and rope all the way down another day. Take extra care with that huge amount of hung up rocks. I also think that despite them being recent, the plats are a bit dodgy. I was clipped by 2 fist sized rocks which came out of the wall from below plat 1. Take extra care please.

Wheal Virgin, Coats or Coads Shaft

The steel cover on this shaft is easy to remove but please put it back. The shaft is on the junction with the County Adit United Downs branch and Wheal Maid. I surveyed for South West Water about twelve years ago.
