The New Mine Explorer Website
Having trouble logging in? Want to know what's happening? Please Read:
Mine-Explorer is six years old! What started out at a relatively simple online database to record photographs from a few individuals has grown into an enormous resource, but it's grown in a very ad-hoc way by continually bolting on new bits and has reached a point where the code is such a mess it's hard to develop it.
SO - you're looking at the entirely new Mine Explorer Website.
Yes it mostly looks like the old one, mainly so when people see it they don't think they are on the wrong website. But it's being completely rewritten over a period of weeks.
So Where Has My Account Gone?
The original version of M.E. had two user databases - one for the main site and another for the forum. This was a bit daft, it meant having to register and login to two different parts of the site and it confused a lot of people. In addition to this, there were about 8000 users registered on the main site, with only about 200 accounts seeming to be particularly active. This was a massive useless overburden.
After lots of thought we've decided to rework the site to use just one database, and we've kept the Forum database. The original user database for the main site has been erased, but we've tried to identify and move over accounts that look like they are in use - but it's hard to tell.
So what do I do now?
You need to log in to the main forum now, if you know you have an account on it. By logging into the forum you log into everything. If you can't get in or don't think you have an account on it, you will need to register again. It's a one minute process and will get you back into M.E. again.
In the mean time, we're working on the programming to get all the features and pages working correctly. There is a lot of work to do, but it'll be good - we promise.
