Videos
As a bit of an experimental section, this page is for the publishing of short Mine-Exploration videos. Underground cinematics are challenging and many explorers have obtained a variety of results ranging from pretty good to absolutely unwatchable. If you've attempted to film something underground, let me know and I'll put it on the list.

CWMORTHIN
UG 19/2/2006
27mins | 70mb | WMV Format
This video is like a strange and trippy dream in an odd late-night telly sort of way. It was filmed by bolting a standard cheap video camera onto the top of big torch from B&Q. The front of the torch is visible for much of the video, giving it a look similar to most modern 3D shoot-em-up games (Quake3 etc). The colours are strange and the footage ranges from dark to pitch black, but nonetheless it still makes for a fairly interesting bit of underground home-video.
If you want a copy burning onto DVD, just email me your address. The DVD quality is much better than the Internet version but no brighter!

CWMORTHIN ADIT
DIG 15/7/2006 4mins | 30mb | WMV Format
Not actually underground, but this is a great little piece of footage from Simon Weir who stumbled across some digging work going on at the Lake Level Adit. It forms excellent proof that we do actually do things! Digging aside, it's got some nice clips of the general mills and lake area.

RHIWBACH 20/8/2006
8mins | 30mb | WMV Format
I'm back with my camera-bolted-onto-torch setup here for a short trip through Rhiwbach. The light is woefully inadequate but you can just about see what's going on, worth a watch anyway, it's only 8 minutes!

Miles Does an Abseil
(Easter 06) 7mins | 17mb | WMV Format
Simply Exploring has built a helmet-mounted bullet camera and to help with the testing, I offer to wear it while doing a 100ft abseil in Nenthead.

Brownley Hill Lead Mine
(Easter 06) 21mins | 53mb | WMV Format
Simply tests his own helmet-mounted camera in Brownley Hill, Nenthead. It doesn't live up to his hopes underground as it has an odd halo effect and isn't really bright enough, but Simply is working on this and is due to return soon with a new-and-improved setup!

Men at work! This video shows elbow grease being used to install the Cwmorthin gate over the August Bank Holiday.

SimonRL in Drws-y-Coed 1.5mins | 5mb | WMV Format
A very short and pointless video, but worth it just to experience the frightening monster noises SimonRL makes when he's in a tight tunnel!

Simply
Exploring Does Brewery Shaft 12mins | 30mb | WMV Format
A great video of Simply Exploring (and friends!) being winched down and up the 328ft long Brewery Shaft in Nenthead. Well worth watching.

Riding a Loco
1.5mins | 5mb | WMV Format
A local caving club have got a diesel loco working in the Milwr Tunnel to provide transport around many unbroken miles of track. Here's a video of me (Miles) hanging off the back of it during a journey from Olwyn Goch shaft to the Limestone Workings.

Cwmorthin
Helmet Cam 60mins | 115mb | WMV Format
This video is the result of me testing my new helmet-mounted video camera whilst showing a small group around some of Cwmorthin and Oakeley. I ended up with about 3 hours of footage from the tip, most of which was relentless trudging down tunnels but I've stripped most of that out. There is good bit at the end where we cross a rotten old timber bridge over a 100 foot drop.

This video by Doctor Keith Russ was created by a robotic laser-scanning robot that drove through a mine and produced a 3D survey. This fly-though video shows the potential of the technology.

This 3D video by Doctor Keith Russ shows the enormous size of the Central District mines. The horizontal lines are tunnels and the vertical lines are shafts. In all, there are over 450 miles of tunnel in this area arranged over 3,000 vertical feet.
