Parc Lead Mine level 2, April 2018.

This is a bit of a historical report, from what was my first trip to Parc lead mine in 2018. It was before I learned how to light paint properly so the photos are not the best.
This was also the day I had the crazy idea to sleep in my hatchback in a layby and it was the worst night of my life. These days I have an estate to sleep in.

Mine was operated from the 1860s until the 1960s. In its last 10 years it producted more lead than all the other mines in the Gwydir forest combined in the 100 years before.
The last use for this mine was for the Bidston tidal experiment which I don't even pretend to understand, so here is some Information for you to read.

Adit on level 2.

The junction between the 2 lodes on level 2. There is a 140ft drop under the flase floor down to level 3.

Looking further back from the junction, you can clearly see the thickness of the ore and how steep it dips downwards.

Part of the level where they tested drills, there is hundred of holes in the wall.

The ore chutes are a running theme down here in various conditions, ranging from perfect to completely collapsed. The bricked off area was used for the bidston tital experiement which was stopped because the deformation of wales was affecting their instruments.

In the back ground is an old shaft to the surface with a ladderway up it, probably where the auxillary fan was when it was a working mine.

Ladderway which goes down 100ft to a sub level just above level 3.

The main level, note the false floor over the chute down to level 3.

The rest of the pictures are just various sights along level 2.

Lovely! Everyone loves Parc (well.. except for my son who was totally freaked out by all the false floor and was desperate to leave). It'd take a very long time to see all of it. Would live to make a mines through trip but I think any suitable shafts are too blocked by "Jenga" collapsed material now. Despite your comments about photography and light painting, they're still very useable shots! Don't sleep in car at Hafna car park or somewhere, that would cause trouble for sure

Great photos mate, the colours are amazing!
I was actually down in Level 3 over the Christmas period:

@Alex you wouldn't happen to be the same Alex I spent a weekend with in South Wales and the Forest of Dean by any chance....?

There is a through trip you can do. In through level 2, down the ladders, down a 30ft pitch into a metal ore chute then out through the water....it's amazing!

Looks like a place a crew could make a documentary about about there are so many different and unique things that have happened in that mine. Thankyou for your post sir.

Certainly sounds a good trip .;)

I do believe the pitch has a 6 month old rope on it , was brand new when installed .

Obviously I have never been to the said area, so don’t know much else ! @Alex

Yes there an rope in place, it's very stiff and needed feeding through the descender but it's solid

Yes they go stiff very fast in parc , it’s brand new . We cut it of a new reel of rope .

I've done the through trip taking in pretty passage and can confirm is mega! and amazing place with so much to see, the higher levelled workings are pretty special as well 👌.

Ok since @Stones has now viewed this , i will admit I have been down the rope a couple of times before !

If anyone ever wants to talk parc let me know ! I may be able to help :D.

Lots of interesting areas there is , It’s very complicated though !

I did once hear the legendary explorer himself got lost in parc level 3 ?? ;) @Royfellows

No, not at all.
Most mines even complex ones are not difficult if one understands the basic nuture of the place. Water always (well, nearly always) runs towards the portal. The mine is mainly either a drift or drive, or a crosscut. Typical of the latter is Lefel Fawr at Cwmystwyth, a very long crosscut cutting the various lodes until the ned where it explores one in both directions.

I think the main complexity of Parc is in the other mines that it connects to, like the Cwffty 25 being in two separate sections.
